Vice President Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia has commissioned a 400-ton-per-day advanced integrated waste recycling plant in Kperisi, near Wa, in the Upper West Region.
This Zoomlion facility, known as the Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRECOP), is the first of its kind in Northern Ghana and will process all types of waste from the region’s 11 municipal and district assemblies.
The Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant constructed by Zoomlion Ghana Limited promotes sustainable waste management by transforming municipal solid and Liquid waste into useful resources.
Being the first of its kind in the Northern region, the plan will process all types of waste from 11 municipal and district assemblies within the region. Dr. Bawumia who commissioned the project, highlighted the dedication of President Akufo-Addo in transforming the waste management sector.
He commended the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong for buying into President Akufu-Addo’s vision of keeping Ghana clean.
Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, addressing the durbar of chiefs and people of the Upper West Region in Kperisi, said the waste treatment plants will among other things create over 10,000 jobs in the plastics recycling and organic fertilizer sectors.
He lauded government support for the sanitation sector. The new Upper West Regional Minister was excited about the tourism potential and job creation the facility brings to his people.
Deputy Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources and Member of Parliament for Sissala East, Amidu Issahaku Chinnia, was grateful to landowners for their contribution to the facility’s construction. The Jospong Group of Companies urged a collaborative effort to ensure the success of the waste various waste treatment plants, which are now in ten out of the 16 regions of Ghana.
