Fuel tanker spills content on Accra-Tema Motorway

An oil tanker this morning May 12, overturned on the Accra-Tema motorway about 200 meters before the toll booth at the Accra end spilling fuel onto the highway.
It is not yet clear what caused the pod of the truck to fall on its side however the spillage has made that part of the stretch slippery, posing a threat to pedestrians and motorists and causing vehicular traffic.
Some individuals were seen risking their lives collecting the spilled fuel with gallons.

The security agencies are being urged to as a matter of urgency intervene to prevent a possible disaster while the general public especially motorists are being advised to exercise caution while plying the stretch.

The Shidaa Foundation donates to Apataim Methodist Basic School in Axim

The Shidaa Foundation, led by Mr. Roland Akwensivie, a Ghanaian entrepreneur and philanthropist based in Canada, along with the talented Afrobeats artist “Cee Levelz” from the Delmi camp, generously donated educational materials to Apateim Methodist Basic School in the Nzema East Municipal, located in the Western region.
On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the foundation provided a motorized wheelchair and an array of learning materials, including books, writing utensils, erasers, highlighters, files, colored pencils, crayons, calculators, mathematical sets, and school bags.
In an interview with With the media , Mr. Roland Akwensivie explained the rationale behind selecting Apateim as the recipient of this thoughtful donation.

“Apateim was identified as a community in great need of educational support. We considered factors such as economic conditions, limited access to educational resources, and the number of underprivileged children in the area. Apateim stood out as a place where our donations would have a significant impact,” he stated.
Mr. Akwensivie also called upon the general public to lend their support to the Shidaa Foundation.
“The Shidaa Foundation warmly welcomes contributions from individuals and organizations who share our goal of empowering underserved youth and enhancing education. There are various ways to contribute, such as making donations, providing in-kind support, volunteering, establishing partnerships, advocating for our cause, sponsoring initiatives, or engaging with the community,” he emphasized.
The mission of the Shidaa Foundation is to promote education and empower underprivileged youth to achieve their full potential. The foundation is dedicated to offering educational assistance, resources, and opportunities to children in need, ensuring they possess the necessary tools to succeed in their academic pursuits.

Former First Lady Theresa Kufuor is dead, Modern news gh can confirm.
Citi News has gathered that Theresa Kufuor, the wife of former President John Agyekum Kufuor died at her home in Peduase surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 1. She was 87.
President Nana Akufo-Addo has already visited the residence of former President Kufuor to extend his condolences.

Theresa Kufuor (born 25 October 1935) was the wife of John Kufuor, the second President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, and former First Lady of Ghana. She was a retired nurse and midwife.
Mrs Kufuor started her education at the Catholic Convent, OLA, at Keta in the Volta Region of Ghana. She later went to London, where she was educated as a Registered General Nurse, in the Southern Hospital Group of Nursing, Edinburgh, Scotland.
After further study at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford and Paddington General Hospital, London, she qualified as a State Certified Midwife with a Certificate in Premature Nursing.
Theresa married John Kufuor when he was at age 23 after they met at a Republic Day Anniversary Dance in London in 1961. They got married in 1962. She is a mother of five and a grandmother of eight. She is a devout Roman Catholic.
Despite being the first lady of Ghana for eight years between 2001 and 2009, she managed to maintain a low profile in the political arena.
In 2007 she pushed for policy changes in the Government’s white paper on Educational Reforms towards the implementation of UNESCO’s Free compulsory universal basic education (FCUBE) program for kindergarten children.
She founded the Mother and Child Community Development Foundation (MCCDF), a non-governmental organisation operating in Ghana and Canada that supports work in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission.

16 feared dead, dozens injured in Gomoa Akyereko accident on Accra-Cape Coast highway

Some 16 people are feared dead in an accident at Gomoa Akyereko on the Accra-Cape Coast highway.
This was the result of a head-on collision between a petrol tanker and a bus at about 5:00 am on Tuesday morning.
The bus was traveling from Abidjan to Buduburam while the tanker was filled with petrol, traveling from Accra heading towards Takoradi.

The Winneba Fire Service Commander explained that “in fact, people have been dismembered.”
Speaking on the AM Show, he clarified, “We have been able to rescue the rescuable lives first, which we have done. We have sent them to the trauma and specialist hospital.”
The rest have been sent to a municipal hospital nearby.
As a result, the road has been blocked to traffic as security agencies on-site work around the clock to restore normalcy.
“We have been able to tow the Yutong bus to a place of safety. And currently, we are receiving the lifeless body of the driver’s mate after which we will tow the tanker to a place of safety as well so that we will be able to open the traffic,” he added.
