Ghana’s Dancehall King, Shatta Wale, has revealed the inspiration behind his song “One God.”

In 2022, Shatta Wale surprised his fans with an Afrobeat-Gospel track titled “On God.” The song was warmly embraced by Ghanaians, becoming a popular jam at the time, with a runtime of 3 minutes and 15 seconds.

During an appearance as a guest on TV3’s Showbiz 360, hosted by media personality Giovanni Caleb, Shatta Wale was asked about the state of mind he was in when he wrote “On God.”

In response, Shatta Wale explained that the song originated from negative comments and comparisons made by Ghanaians, pitting him against other artists like Black Sherif. He mentioned that he is a person of faith and turned to God in prayer about the situation. Within a short period of time, “On God” was composed and recorded.

“In America, people were talking about me, comparing me to other artists and such. For instance, when Black Sherif dropped his single, everybody started saying a whole lot of things. And I also pray a lot, and I was like, God, you can’t let these people get to us like that. Let’s do something. So, within about 45 minutes, I played the beats, recorded everything, and went to sleep,” Shatta Wale explained.

He went on to share that his fellow artist, Jupitar, played a significant role in supporting the song’s popularity and even contributed to the direction of the music video.

“I sent the song to Jupitar, who was also in America. He was surprised when he heard the song. So, Jupitar gave me the motivation to put the song out and shoot a video. Jupitar also helped in directing the video, as well as pushing the song. It’s good like that,” Shatta Wale concluded.
