Asante Kotoko set for new direction

Published

on

Asante Kotoko are poised for a fresh start under new leadership, as reports suggest that the board, led by Dr Kwame Kyei, will not have their mandate extended.

The club’s owner, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, appointed the board in May 2020, and after three years at the helm, their tenure has come to an end. The owner is keen on charting a new course for the club, according to multiple reports.

With the board’s mandate not being renewed, the management team, led by Nana Yaw Amponsah, will also be stepping down. Amponsah was appointed in August on a three-year contract.

As of now, it remains uncertain who will spearhead the new direction of the club. Kotoko had a challenging previous season, finishing without any silverware and suffering an early exit from the CAF Champions League.

They concluded the season under caretaker coach Abdul Gazale, as Seydou Zerbo, the underperforming Burkinabe trainer, was dismissed in the middle of the campaign.

Rumours abound that Manhyia Palace is contemplating the appointment of former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah as the club’s next coach for the upcoming season. However, the final decision lies with the new board and management, which will be constituted in the following weeks.
