Kotoko advised to sack current players ahead of new season

Kotoko legend Wilberforce Mfum has called on authorities of the club to get a fresh set of quality players if they intend to bounce back to success.

The Porcupine Warriors had a disappointing campaign last season finishing fourth in the Ghana Premier League and suffering eliminations in the CAF Champions League and the FA Cup.

At the end of the season, the board and management of the club were both dissolved prompting the life patron of the club Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to meet stakeholders of the club to deliberate on the way forward.

It was decided that the team instantly recruit players ahead of the upcoming season with former Back Stars coach Kwesi Appiah charged to lead the process.

Mfum who featured for Kotoko in the 1960s has therefore advised that the current squad be ousted to pave the way for better talents to be signed.

According to him, the players lack basics in playing football which is why they need to leave.

“Those who there are all rust-to-die players (Aweawufuo). They should let all of them go and sign new ones and if we want new ones, we have to get money. Otumfuo said he will give Kotoko money to start so we are looking upon him”

“Coaches will teach you but if you go on the field you have to apply your wisdom because on the pitch the coach will not be there with you”

“Today’s players, most of them do not have a working mind, they will get clear goalscoring opportunities “Me and you” and will miss them. Let’s just be patient with the boys, Kotoko will be great” Wilberforce Mfum said on Kessben TV
